CAT & MOUSE TREND: HELLO KITTY VERSUS MICKEY MOUSE

Forget about Tom & Jerry, let’s talk about a very nice pussycat and a dandy cool mouse…

These past two years they have been actually quite popular, 2009 marked with Hello Kitty being given a M.A.C. Hello Kitty Collection (which sold out pretty fast) and now in 2010 with Jeremy Scott’s Mouse Trap Collection. Now, there is a thin line between looking good with these characters, and looking like a total idiot. I actually like both, depending on the mood- but in my case I have a Mickey shirt of a Hello Kitty Jacket & have pulled off adding a black peplum “Minnie style” skirt to my Mickey shirt without being too costumy, but w/HK, just the jacket, no more. Though I also think Hello Kitty makes a better tattoo (if done properly, of course) & makes for cuter stickers… but there is a cute overload factor, so be sure to pick wisely.

Let’s start with some looks donned by Rihanna:

Note the Kitty BLING...

NEXT, Katy Perry:

SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A MINNIE MOUSE FAN...

& Presenting the M.A.C. Hello Kitty corset designed by The Blonds, worn by her at Brit Awards 2009.
Now let’s go a weeny bit more hardcore, enter Lady Gaga:

LET THE CUTENESS CONSUME ME!

Which look do you prefer?

The site, Letters from China informs that: “The world's first Hello Kitty Plane is introduced by Taiwanese Eva Airways, a few months after the world's only Mickey Mouse train kicked off in Hong Kong.” (Which leads me to personally believe they have engaged in a soon to be legendary feud over who rules the world first.) o_0 Buahaha ha! In particular, I think Hello Kitty wants to monopolize all commodities. Rather than Made in China, Sanrio strives for Hello Kitty everythings. This year, Hello Kitty has entered the wine market, with a Hello Kitty Wine collection made up of four wines (a sparkling Brut rosé, a sparkling "Sweet Pink", an Angel White and a Devil Red) that can be purchased online. See, http://www.hitimewine.net/istar.aspa=29&dept=03&search=kitty
And if you are really insane about Kitty, move to Taiwan, there's even a maternity hospital (among other things you get a stamped Kitty birth certificate, which is sooooo cute...)

KITTY INSANITY!!!!!!!!

In Japan, Hello Kitty has definitely won, being already the ambassador (In May 2008, Japan named Hello Kitty the ambassador of Japanese tourism in both China and Hong Kong). UNICEF has also awarded Hello Kitty the exclusive title of UNICEF Special Friend of Children. You could argue that the United States is Mickey Mouse’s arena. On November 18, 1978, in honor of his 50th anniversary, he became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Mickey Mouse's name has also been known to appear fraudulently on voter registration lists, most recently in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election.

Gruesome “cultural references”:

• In 1999, in Hong Kong, a brutal murder known as the “Hello Kitty murder” took place. The popular name of the case derives from the fact that the murderer/s inserted his victim's head into a Hello Kitty doll after decapitating her.
• According to Israel Today Staff, a prominent Saudi Islamic cleric has issued a fatwa, or religious edict, against Mickey Mouse, whom he characterized as an agent of Satan sent to corrupt young minds. Al-Munajid explained that Islamic law refers to the mouse as "little corrupter" and a creature that is "steered by Satan," and grants permission to all Muslims to "kill [mice] in all cases." Therefore, according to Islamic law, insisted the sheikh, "Mickey Mouse should be killed."

TOP DISLIKE: MEN DRESSED WITH THE FULL HEAG GEAR WITHOUT SHIRTS.

SO UNSEXY.

OTHER THAN MINNIE MOUSE, I WONDER WHO WOULD WANT TO SHAG MICKEY?

POOR DUDE, THEREIN LIES A FULLY CASTRATED MAN...
